If your Brother printer is not connecting to WiFi, the problem could be due to network settings, signal issues, incorrect passwords, or printer configuration errors. This guide covers all the necessary steps to resolve the issue.
Check WiFi Network Settings
Confirm SSID and Password
- Make sure you are entering the correct WiFi network name (SSID) and password.
- Avoid using special characters that the printer may not support.
Ensure 2.4GHz Network Availability
- Many Brother printers do not support 5GHz WiFi.
- Ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz signal, or split the bands.
Reboot Printer and Router
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
- Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
- Plug both devices back in and wait until they are fully powered on.
Run Wireless Setup Wizard on Printer
- On the printer’s control panel, press Menu or go to Settings.
- Navigate to Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard.
- The printer will search for available networks.
- Select your WiFi network and enter the correct password.
- Wait for confirmation that the connection is successful.
Use WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) Method
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- Within two minutes, press the WiFi or WPS button on the Brother printer.
- The printer should automatically connect to the router.
Print WLAN Report
- From the control panel, navigate to Settings > Print Reports > WLAN Report.
- Review the report for connection status or error codes like:
- TS-05: Incorrect network password
- TS-08: MAC filtering enabled on router
- TS-04: Printer cannot find the router
Disable MAC Address Filtering on Router
- Log in to your router settings using a browser.
- Check if MAC address filtering is turned on.
- If enabled, add your Brother printer’s MAC address or disable the filter.
Assign a Static IP Address
- On the printer’s network settings, go to TCP/IP configuration.
- Set to Static and manually assign an IP address within your network’s range.
- Make sure the IP address does not conflict with another device.
Reset the Printer’s Network Settings
- On the printer’s panel, go to Settings > Network > Network Reset.
- Confirm the reset.
- After the reset, run the Wireless Setup Wizard again.
Update Firmware
- Download the latest firmware from the Brother support website.
- Use a USB connection or Brother’s Firmware Update Tool to update the device.
Reinstall the Printer on Your Computer
- On your computer, go to Printers & Scanners.
- Remove the Brother printer.
- Re-add the printer once it connects successfully to WiFi.
If the printer still doesn’t connect to WiFi, use Brother’s Network Connection Repair Tool (Windows) or contact Brother Support for further help.
