If your HP printer cannot scan the alignment page, it may result in poor print quality or an incomplete setup. This issue is typically related to scanning sensor problems, incorrect page placement, dirty scanner glass, or firmware issues. Use the following steps to resolve the problem.
Place the Alignment Page Correctly
Orientation and Position Matter
- Ensure the printed side is face down on the scanner glass.
- Align it to the indicated corner or guide marks, usually the front-right or front-left corner.
- Do not place the alignment page in the automatic document feeder (ADF).
Clean the Scanner Glass
Dust or Smudges May Block Scanning
- Turn off the printer and open the scanner lid.
- Use a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner to gently wipe the scanner glass.
- Also clean the white backing under the lid.
Check Lighting and Environment
External Light May Interfere
- Scan the page in a well-lit but indirect light environment.
- Avoid direct sunlight or reflections on the scanner glass.
Restart the Printer
Simple Reset Can Help
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Reprint and scan the alignment page again.
