Jabra Headset Cannot Unmute

If your Jabra headset won’t unmute, it can be caused by physical button lock, app-level settings (like Microsoft Teams or Zoom), system sound settings, or firmware bugs. This guide walks you through all possible causes and solutions so you can restore microphone functionality.

Step 1: Check the Physical Mute Button

Use the Mute/Unmute Button on the Headset

  • Press the mute button once to toggle mute/unmute.
  • On some models, the mute icon blinks red or shows a red LED when the mic is muted.
  • If pressing the button doesn’t unmute, continue with the steps below.

Step 2: Unmute from the Calling App

In Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, or Others

  • Teams: Click the microphone icon during the call.
  • Zoom: Press the mic icon or use Alt + A (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + A (Mac).
  • Some apps override headset buttons-mute status must be changed in the app itself.

Always restart the app after changing input devices or settings.

Step 3: Check Microphone Permissions

On Windows

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  2. Ensure microphone access is ON.
  3. Make sure apps like Teams or Zoom have permission to use the microphone.

On macOS

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
  2. Enable access for the relevant apps (Teams, Zoom, etc.).

Step 4: Check Sound Settings in OS

On Windows

  1. Right-click the speaker icon > Sounds > Recording tab.
  2. Select your Jabra headset microphone > click Properties.
  3. Go to the Levels tab and make sure it’s not muted and the volume is above 50.
  4. Set the mic as default if it isn’t already.

On macOS

  1. Go to System Settings > Sound > Input.
  2. Select your Jabra headset.
  3. Adjust the input volume slider and make sure it registers sound when you speak.

Step 5: Use Jabra Direct to Check Mic Settings

Install Jabra Direct

  1. Download from Jabra Direct.
  2. Connect your headset via USB or dongle.
  3. Open Jabra Direct and:
    • Ensure mic is not muted in the software interface.
    • Adjust sidetone and call control settings.
  4. Apply changes and restart the headset.

Step 6: Reset the Headset

Soft Reset (Most Models)

  • Press and hold the Call button + Volume Down for 5–10 seconds until LEDs flash.
  • Reconnect and test mute/unmute function again.

This clears pairing and resets internal settings, but does not delete firmware.

Step 7: Update Firmware

  1. Connect your headset to a PC.
  2. Open Jabra Direct.
  3. Install any firmware updates available for the headset.
  4. After updating, restart both the PC and headset.

Step 8: Test in Another App or Device

  • Try using the headset in another app (like Voice Recorder) or on another phone or PC.
  • If the mic works elsewhere, the issue is isolated to the original app or device settings.
