If you’re unable to access the HP printer’s web interface (also known as the Embedded Web Server or EWS), it usually means there’s a connectivity or configuration issue. The web interface is crucial for managing settings like network configuration, security, firmware updates, and Web Services.
Find the Printer’s IP Address
Use the Printer Control Panel
- Go to Network Settings or Wireless Settings on the printer screen.
- View or print the Network Configuration Page to find the printer’s IP address.
Use HP Smart App
- Open the HP Smart app and select the printer.
- Go to Printer Information to find the IP address.
Access the Embedded Web Server
Enter IP Address in Browser
- On a device connected to the same network, open a browser.
- Type the printer’s IP address directly into the address bar (e.g.,
http://192.168.1.105). - Do not use a search engine or add
www.
If the page doesn’t load, continue with the steps below.
Check Network Connection
Ensure Same Network
- Make sure both the printer and your computer or mobile device are connected to the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
Ping the Printer
- On a Windows PC, open Command Prompt and type:
ping [printer IP address](e.g.,ping 192.168.1.105) - If it fails, the printer isn’t reachable on the network.
Disable VPN and Firewalls
Temporarily Turn Off VPN or Firewall
- VPNs and strict firewall settings can block local IP communication.
- Disable them temporarily and try again.
Use HTTP Instead of HTTPS
Switch Protocol in URL
- Some older printers do not support HTTPS.
- Try using
http://instead ofhttps://in the browser address bar.
Assign Static IP Address
Prevent IP Changes
- From the printer control panel or router settings, assign a static IP address to the printer to ensure it stays reachable.
Restart Devices
Power Cycle Printer and Router
- Turn off your printer, router, and computer or phone.
- Wait 30 seconds, then restart all devices and try again.
Enable Web Services (if required)
Use Control Panel
- Go to Settings > Web Services and make sure the service is enabled.
- Some printer models require Web Services to be active for the EWS to function.
Access via USB (for initial setup)
Temporary Workaround
- If you still cannot access the web interface over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, connect your printer to a computer via USB.
- Use HP software to configure network settings.
If none of the above steps work, consider resetting the printer’s network settings and reconfiguring the connection. Persistent issues may indicate a firmware bug or hardware-level network issue.
