If Spotify is not allowing you to change your country, it may be due to an active subscription, payment method restrictions, or account settings. This guide provides step-by-step solutions to update your country on Spotify successfully.
Check If You Are Eligible to Change Country
Free Account Users
- If you have a Spotify Free account, you can change your country only when you are physically in the new country.
- Spotify will detect your location based on your IP address.
Premium Account Users
- If you have Spotify Premium, you must update your payment method to one issued in the new country before changing the country.
Update Country in Spotify Settings
- Go to Spotify Account Page.
- Click Edit Profile.
- Find the Country/Region section.
- If eligible, select your new country from the drop-down list.
- Click Save Profile.
Change Payment Method to Match the New Country
- If you have a Spotify Premium subscription, you must use a payment method from the new country before changing your location.
- To update your payment method:
- Go to Spotify Account Page > Manage Payments.
- Add a new credit card, debit card, or PayPal account registered in the new country.
- Once the payment method is updated, retry changing the country in your profile settings.
Cancel Subscription and Reapply
If Spotify still does not allow country changes, cancel your Premium subscription and wait until it expires.
Steps to Cancel Subscription
- Go to Spotify Account Page > Subscription.
- Click Cancel Premium and confirm.
- Wait until the current billing cycle ends.
- After your account switches to Spotify Free, change the country in settings.
- Resubscribe to Premium using a payment method from the new country.
Disable VPN or Proxy
- If you are using a VPN or proxy, Spotify may block country changes due to location mismatch.
- Disable your VPN or proxy and try changing the country again.
