If your HP printer is not detecting the USB connection, the issue may be due to faulty cables, incorrect drivers, system configuration, or hardware problems. Below are the steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Check the USB Connection

Use a Different USB Port
  • Plug the printer into another USB port on your computer.
  • Preferably use a port directly on the computer, not through a USB hub.

Try a Different USB Cable
  • Faulty or damaged USB cables are a common cause.
  • Use a certified USB 2.0 or 3.0 cable, preferably under 6 feet in length.

Verify the Printer Is Powered On
  • Make sure the printer is turned on and not in sleep mode.
  • Check for any warning lights or error messages on the printer display.

Check Device Recognition in Windows

Device Manager
  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Look for entries like “USB Printing Support” or your printer’s name.
  4. If you see a yellow triangle or unknown device, right-click > Uninstall and then reconnect the printer.

Reinstall or Update Printer Drivers
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and PC.
  2. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and remove the printer.

Reset the Printing System (macOS)
