iPhone Night Mode: Activation, Deactivation and Usage

The Night Mode camera feature on your iPhone is made for taking pictures in low-light conditions. Night mode adjusts the duration of your iPhone’s shutter, prolonging exposure to produce brighter images. In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to utilize Night mode for capturing shots in low-light environments, along with some tips for optimal results.

How to Activate Night Mode on iPhone Camera

One of the most convenient aspects of Night mode on iPhone 11 and newer models is its automatic activation when the camera detects low-light conditions. Upon opening the Camera app, Night mode is denoted by an icon featuring a crescent moon and horizontal lines, situated at the top of your screen. It’s important to note that Night mode may not function with certain models when using optical zoom. Before utilizing Night mode, it’s advisable to read our article on optical zoom. • When the icon appears yellow, Night mode is active.
  • When the icon appears gray, Night mode is inactive.

Remember to Deactivate Night Mode When Unnecessary

Night mode may activate unnecessarily, causing overexposure of a picture. Consequently, standard photos may appear excessively bright, potentially leading to blown-out highlights.

Enable Night mode only when required. To deactivate Night mode, tap the moon icon located at the top-left corner of your Camera app to cross out the icon.

How to Utilize Night Mode on iPhone

When Night mode is activated, you’ll notice a numerical value adjacent to the Night mode icon. This number signifies the duration required for your iPhone’s camera to capture the image. The lower the lighting conditions, the longer the exposure time. To capture the best possible photo:

  1. Observe the seconds displayed alongside the Night mode icon.
  2. If you don’t see the Night mode icon displayed at the bottom of your screen, tap the caret symbol at the top to reveal additional camera settings.
  3. Select the Night mode icon within the settings options to display the slider.
  4. Within the slider, adjust the exposure time of your shot by sliding left or right.
  5. Press the Shutter button.
  6. Maintain a steady hold of your camera for the specified duration.

If you encounter difficulty in maintaining steadiness for the required duration, try steadying your elbows by your sides and exhaling slowly; capture your shot at the end of the exhale. For added stability, place your iPhone on a stable surface or utilize a phone tripod.
