If your AirPods cannot connect to your Samsung phone or tablet, it usually comes down to Bluetooth pairing problems, outdated software, or connection interference. AirPods work with Samsung devices through Bluetooth, and once connected, they perform like regular wireless earbuds. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix the issue quickly.
Check Bluetooth Settings on Your Samsung Device
Make Sure Bluetooth Is Enabled
- Go to Settings → Connections → Bluetooth.
- Make sure Bluetooth is on.
- If it’s already on, turn it off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
Make Your Device Discoverable
If your Samsung device doesn’t automatically scan for nearby accessories, tap Scan in the Bluetooth settings to refresh the device list.
Put AirPods in Pairing Mode
How to Enable Pairing Mode
- Place both AirPods in the charging case.
- Open the lid – keep the AirPods inside.
- Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the LED light flashes white.
- On your Samsung phone, open Settings → Connections → Bluetooth, and tap your AirPods when they appear under Available devices.
If you don’t see the white light, charge the AirPods for a few minutes and try again.
Forget and Reconnect AirPods
If your AirPods are listed but fail to connect:
- In Bluetooth settings, tap the gear icon (⚙️) next to your AirPods’ name.
- Select Unpair or Forget.
- Restart your Samsung phone.
- Hold the AirPods’ setup button again until the LED flashes white.
- Reconnect them as a new device.
Reset the AirPods
Resetting your AirPods removes all saved Bluetooth connections and often resolves pairing errors.
- Put both AirPods in the charging case.
- Keep the lid open.
- Hold the setup button on the back for about 15 seconds, until the LED flashes amber, then white.
- On your Samsung device, scan again under Bluetooth and select your AirPods.
Update Your Samsung Software
Outdated system software can cause Bluetooth problems.
- Go to Settings → Software update → Download and install.
- Install any available updates and restart your phone.
Clear Bluetooth Cache and Data
Clearing the Bluetooth cache can help if the system is storing corrupted connection data.
- Open Settings → Apps.
- Tap the filter icon and enable Show system apps.
- Scroll down and select Bluetooth.
- Tap Storage → Clear cache and Clear data.
- Restart your phone and try connecting again.
Disconnect AirPods from Other Devices
AirPods can only connect to one device at a time. If they’re still connected to an iPhone, Mac, or iPad, they won’t pair with your Samsung device.
- Turn off Bluetooth on nearby Apple devices.
- Put the AirPods back into pairing mode.
- Reconnect them to your Samsung phone.
Check Audio Output Settings
If your AirPods connect but you don’t hear sound:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Tap the Media output or Audio output option.
- Choose your AirPods from the list.
This ensures sound is directed through your AirPods instead of the phone’s speaker.
Stay Within Bluetooth Range
Bluetooth typically works best within 10 meters (33 feet).
Keep your AirPods close to your Samsung phone during pairing, and avoid interference from:
- Wi-Fi routers
- Wireless peripherals
- Microwaves or metal surfaces
Use a Companion App for Extra Features
While AirPods connect via Bluetooth, some Apple-specific features (like automatic ear detection or battery indicators) don’t work natively on Samsung. You can use third-party apps for better control and visibility, such as:
- MaterialPods
- Assistant Trigger
- AirBattery
These apps can show battery levels and improve AirPods usability on Samsung devices.
Test AirPods on Another Device
If your AirPods still won’t connect:
- Try pairing them with another phone, tablet, or computer.
- If they connect elsewhere, your Samsung device may have a Bluetooth software issue.
- If they don’t connect to any device, your AirPods or charging case may be faulty.
In that case, contact Apple Support or visit an authorized service provider for inspection or replacement.
