Can a JBL Speaker Connect to a Monitor?

A JBL speaker can connect to a monitor, but only if the monitor has an audio output and the JBL speaker has a compatible input. Most monitors do not have built-in Bluetooth or high-quality audio support, so the connection method depends on the ports available on both devices.

Connection Methods

1. AUX Cable (3.5mm Audio)

If your monitor has a 3.5mm headphone jack or audio out, and your JBL speaker has an AUX input:

  • Use a 3.5mm AUX cable to connect the monitor to the speaker.
  • The monitor will pass audio through to the speaker if it’s receiving sound via HDMI from a connected device like a PC or console.

2. RCA to AUX Adapter

If the monitor has RCA audio output (red and white jacks), and your JBL speaker has a 3.5mm input:

  • Use an RCA to AUX adapter to make the connection.
  • This setup works similarly to the AUX method but through analog audio ports.

3. Bluetooth (If Monitor Supports It)

Most monitors do not support Bluetooth output, but if you have a rare model that does:

  • Put the JBL speaker into Bluetooth pairing mode.
  • Go into the monitor’s Bluetooth settings and pair the speaker.
  • Select the speaker as the default audio output.

This method is uncommon and may introduce audio lag.

4. Use an External Bluetooth Transmitter

If your monitor doesn’t have Bluetooth but has audio out:

  • Plug a Bluetooth transmitter into the monitor’s headphone jack or RCA port.
  • Pair your JBL speaker with the transmitter.
  • Audio from the monitor will stream wirelessly to your speaker.

This is a practical way to add wireless functionality to monitors that lack it.

What If the Monitor Has No Audio Output?

If your monitor doesn’t have audio out, you can route sound from the connected device instead (e.g., PC, console):

  • Connect the JBL speaker directly to the PC or console using AUX or Bluetooth.
  • The monitor will handle video only, while audio goes straight to the speaker.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Not all JBL speakers have AUX input-check your model first.
  • Monitor must be receiving audio from HDMI or DisplayPort for sound to pass through.
  • Bluetooth setups may have delay, which affects lip sync in videos.
