Can JBL Speakers Be Washed?

JBL speakers should not be washed in the traditional sense (e.g., under a faucet or in a sink), even if they are labeled as waterproof. While many JBL models are water-resistant or waterproof, there are specific limits and guidelines you should follow to avoid damaging the speaker.

Many JBL speakers are rated with IPX or IP protection levels, such as:

• IPX7: Can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes
• IP67: Fully dustproof and can be submerged (same water protection as IPX7)

These ratings apply to fresh water only and under controlled conditions. They do not mean the speaker is washable with soap, high-pressure water, or hot water.

• Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to wipe off dirt, dust, or fingerprints.
• Avoid getting moisture into the ports or buttons.

• Use a soft brush to clean mesh grills or tight crevices.
• Useful for sand, dirt, or dried mud on the speaker’s surface.

For IPX7 or IP67-rated speakers:

• You can gently rinse the exterior with fresh water (not soapy or chlorinated water).
• Keep ports closed with rubber flaps securely sealed.
• Dry the speaker thoroughly before charging or turning it on.

• No soap or detergents: These can damage seals and leave residue.
• No submerging with open ports: Water will get inside and cause damage.
• No high-pressure water: Pressure washers, shower heads, or faucets can push water into internal components.
• No dishwasher or washing machine: Even waterproof models will likely be destroyed in these conditions.

• Gently shake out any water trapped behind grills.
• Pat dry with a clean towel.
• Let the speaker air dry completely before use or charging.
• Do not use a hair dryer or heat gun-excess heat can damage internal parts.
